Positive India:Raipur:
NHMMI once again has proved that as far as latest technology use in healthcare is concerned,it stands apart. Recent case is of using a new Dissolvable Stent fot the first in Chhattisgarh.
Naveen Sharma-Facility Director of NHMMI told in a press conference that Most people believe heart problems are never short-term. They drag a lot of long-term health complications along with them, but now we have an option to reduce the complimentary complications with new Dissolvable Stent.
A 39-year-old man suffered a heart attack and was successfully treated with a next generation dissolvable stent – first time in Chhattisgarh. After the initial treatment, the patient came to NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur for further evaluation and treatment. Dr. Sumanta Shekhar Padhi assessed him and planned an Angiography, which confirmed a 90% blockage in the LAD (the largest vessel of the heart). He needed an angioplasty (a procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries).
Dr. Sumanta Shekhar Padhi, Sr. consultant – Interventional Cardiology (NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur), said, “Since the patient was young and had no other risk factors, we decided to use a dissolvable stent instead of the commonly used metal stent. The dissolvable stent would give him a better and long-term result. However, the recently available dissolvable stent needs a different meticulous stent implant technique than the metal stents.”
Dr. Sunil Gouniyal, Sr. consultant – Interventional Cardiology (NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur), explained that “The treatment was planned with intravascular ultrasound. Intravascular ultrasound is an advanced imaging technique to see the inner side of a coronary artery. Such advanced imaging technique helps in proper deployment of the stent and post-deployment assignment and needs additional skill by the operator.”
The procedure was done successfully by a team of cardiologists – Dr. Sumanta Shekhar Padhi (Sr. Consultant – Interventional Cardiology) Dr Sunil Gouniyal (Sr. Consultant – Interventional Cardiology), Dr. Snehil Goswami (Consultant – Interventional Cardiology) and Dr. Jinesh Jain (Consultant – Interventional Cardiology) on 11th Mar’22 and the patient was discharged on 13th Mar’22.
The patient narrated his experience by saying, “I am well and able to live a regular life with the help of this treatment. When I got to know about the new dissolvable stent, I was afraid but soon realized the benefit.”
Mr. Naveen Sharma, Facility Director, NH MMI Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Raipur said, “This is the first time in our state that a dissolvable stent has been used. Dr. S. S. Padhi is one of the experts of such techniques.”
