In a situation of crisis like this, where the entire nation is gripped by the unemployment crisis caused due to the economic slowdown amid Covid-19, Chhattisgarh on the other hand, has brought down its unemployment rate to 2 per cent in September 2020, which is much lower than the national unemployment rate of 6.8 per cent nationwide. The unemployment rate was recorded to be 7.9 per cent in urban areas and 6.3 per cent in rural areas in the country. According to the latest data on unemployment rate released by the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) on 16th October, the unemployment rate in Assam is 1.2 per cent followed by Chhattisgarh with 2 per cent, which is very less compared to developed states of the country.
The unemployment rate in Rajasthan stands at 15.3 per cent, 12.2 per cent in Delhi, 11.9 per cent in Bihar, 19.1 per cent in Haryana, 9.6 per cent in Punjab, 4.5 per cent in Maharashtra, 9.3 per cent in West Bengal, 4.2 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, 8.2 per cent in Jharkhand, 2.1 per cent in Odisha.
It comes as no shock, that the visionary decisions taken by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Bhupesh Baghel with a rapid increase in the agricultural sector and industrial activities in the state, is thereby increasing the employment opportunities in Chhattisgarh and reducing it to the lowest point.
Previously, the unemployment rate had come down from 14.4% in June to 9% in July. Decisions taken by the state government kept people in the state connected with economic activities even amid the Covid-19 period.
Industrial activities commenced in Chhattisgarh since the last week of April. Presently, work has been started at almost 100 per cent of industries while taking preventive measures against corona. With the aid of good monsoon, the agricultural activities have increased in the state. Employment opportunities were rapidly increased in the state due to employment-oriented works and purchase of micro-produce under MNREGA. Farmer-friendly schemes and public welfare decisions including Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyaya Yojana have created an encouraging environment of economic upliftment. As soon as the process of unlocking began, the economy of Chhattisgarh gained momentum, which resulted in increased GST collection in the state and a boom in automobile, agricultural and other sectors of the state.
