Positive India: 1984 Sikh Riots victims have started getting justice. This justice has come after 34 years of relentless waiting. Today, Delhi’s Patiala Court pronounced death sentence to Yaspal and life term punishment to Naresh Sehrawat in Tihal Jail premises . Both have been found guilty of murdering and inciting the mob for looting and plundering in Mahipalpur in Delhi on November 1, 1984.
After the murder of Indian Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi in 1984 by her own body guards Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, anti-Sikh Riots broke out in India. In Delhi only, 2100 Sikhs were murdered by mobs incited by leaders of Congress, the prominent being Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar.
Nothing did happen till 2014. The successive Congress Govt at Centre took a very lenient approach towards its own leaders who were found guilty of abetting and inciting mobs to murder and loot Sikhs in 1984. Thousands of Sikhs waited in agony to get justice till today. When Narendra Modi Govt took oath in 2014, Home Minister Rajnath Singh formed an SIT to investigate the Anti-Sikh Riots cases afresh. SIT investigated and the Patiala House trial court held Yashpal and Naresh guilty of riots. Today, court pronounced Death Sentence to Yashpal for murdering 2 Sikh brothers, setting houses on fire and looting and plundering shops and houses. Another accused Naresh Sehrawat has been punished with life sentence.
With this judgement, a ray of hope has arised in hearts of 1984 Sikh Riots victims for justice.
