In India, heart disease is responsible for approximately 25% of all deaths, and women account for a significant portion of these deaths. According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in India, accounting for almost 18% of all female deaths. Shockingly, the mortality rate due to heart disease among Indian women is higher than that of breast cancer and other cancers combined.
Dr. Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, said, “A woman’s health is the pillar of well-being in a family, and we wholeheartedly welcome the Govt’s initiative of Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan. At Narayana Health, our dream has always been to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone. Through this initiative we are aiming to provide 5,000 free ECGs across the country and we are not merely giving a diagnostic test; we are opening the door to conversation and awareness of heart health. We are proud to have our efforts align with the Government’s ‘Swasth Naari, Sashakt Parivar’ vision and help create a healthier India, one heart at a time.”
Cardiologists stress that ECG is a quick, non-invasive, and very important first step in evaluating heart health. It can detect several cardiac abnormalities and help in early detection and management, which is necessary to avoid serious cardiac events. Women are urged to come to their closest Narayana Health hospital to take advantage of this free screening.
