Positive India: Raipur:
India’s leading healthcare provider, Narayana Health, has set a new benchmark in preventive cardiac care by conducting 11,786 free ECG screenings for women in a single day across its 20+ hospitals and healthcare centers. MMI Narayana Hospital, Raipur, made a significant contribution to this initiative by conducting 791 free ECGs for women. This was part of a nationwide campaign in support of the Government of India’s “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Pariwar Abhiyan” (Healthy Women, Strong Families Campaign), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2025, to strengthen healthcare services for women and children across the country.

The objective of these screenings, organized on the same day, was to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of cardiovascular diseases in women – a group often underdiagnosed when it comes to heart care. This initiative reflects Narayana Health’s commitment to aligning with public health goals and expanding access to quality preventive healthcare for women in both urban and rural India.

In a record-breaking initiative focused on women’s heart health, Narayana Health successfully carried out 11,786 ECG screenings for women at its hospitals – nearly three times higher than last year’s 3,797 ECGs (for both men and women). This year’s effort not only surpassed expectations but also broke Narayana Health’s own 2023 world record for the most ECGs performed in a single day.

Dr.Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairperson of Narayana Health, said:
“We are delighted to have surpassed our target of 5,000 ECGs in a single day. This is not just a number – it represents thousands of women who have taken the first step toward understanding and protecting their heart health. At Narayana Health, we believe that preventive care is the foundation of a healthy nation, and this initiative reflects our commitment to aligning with the government’s vision of ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Pariwar’.”

Dr. Emmanuel Rupert, Group CEO of Narayana Health, added:
“The response we received from across the country is proof of the growing awareness about preventive health. Through this initiative, we reached not only women in major cities but also ensured participation from smaller towns and communities. Teams across our 20+ units worked tirelessly to make this campaign a success, showcasing the strength of Narayana Health as a national healthcare network.”

Why It Matters?

According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in India, accounting for nearly 18% of all female deaths. In fact, more Indian women die from heart disease than from breast cancer and all other cancers combined.

Narayana Health’s cardiologists emphasized that ECG (electrocardiogram) is a simple, non-invasive, and quick test that can detect early signs of cardiac abnormalities. Regular check-ups and early detection enable timely interventions and lifestyle management, leading to significantly improved outcomes.

A Legacy of Impact:

This achievement is the result of Narayana Health’s continuous focus on high-impact preventive healthcare. In 2023, Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, set a world record by performing 3,797 ECGs in 24 hours at a single location. That record has now been surpassed in 2025 with over 5,500 ECGs conducted in a single day.

The 2025 campaign highlights how public-private collaboration and community participation can generate powerful momentum in tackling India’s most pressing health challenges—especially those affecting women.
