Dr. Bharat Bhushan and Dr. Akanksha Chikhlikar successfully
removed a massive 11.4 kg Ovarian tumour in complex surgery.
In a remarkable medical feat, surgical oncologists at Narayana Health MMI Hospital successfully removed an anonymous 11.4 kg ovarian mass from 41-year-old woman, giving her a new lease of life. The patient, who had been experiencing abdominal distention,
discomfort, bloating and increasing fatigue for several months, sought medical attention when her symptoms became unmanageable.
Upon clinical evaluation and imaging studies, doctors discovered a massive ovarian tumour occupying nearly the entire abdominal cavity. “The tumour was so large, it was compressing
other organs and making everyday activities extremely difficult for her” said Dr. Bharat Bhushan Consultant- Surgical Oncologist at MMI Narayana Cancer Care, Raipur.
The surgical team including Dr. Akanksha Chikhlikar, Associate Consultant – Surgical oncology performed a complex but carefully planned procedure that lasted over 4 hours. Despite the
size and potential complication, the surgery was completed successfully without damage to the surrounding organ. Post-operative recovery has been smooth, and the patient is now in stable condition.
“Masses of this size is rare and can sometimes go unnoticed until they reach an advanced stage”, Dr.Bharat added. “This case underlines the importance of regular health check-up and early intervention.
Pathological analysis is under way to determine whether the tumour was benign on malignant. However, early signs suggest a favourable outcome.
The patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed deep gratitude to the Surgical oncology team, anesthesiologist and staff nurse.
Patient said,”I feel like I can breathe again.-both physically and emotionally. I’m so thankful to doctors who did not just trust me, but gave me my life back.”
This successful surgery highlights the importance of public awareness about a woman’s health and advances in surgical care that make such outcomes increasingly possible.
